SELF-CARE = SELF-LOVE
I’ve often said that when we truly decide that we are worthy of our own Self-Love, the Self-Care just takes care of itself.
I asked the team at Ripple Effect Wellness for the top ways that they LOVE and CARE for themselves, and boy, did they deliver!! Their daily rituals for self-care are inspiring, and we share them with you today!
BOOSTING SELF-ESTEEM with POSITIVE SELF-TALK
“Before I get dressed in the morning, I stand butt-naked in front of the mirror and tell myself how strong my body is, how beautiful my curves are, and how this day is going to rock! This boosts my self-esteem and sets the intention for a wonderful day!”
Now, while our practitioner wasn’t prepared to allow us to video her morning ritual, we think the little girl in this video knows what this positive self-talk is all about!
“I meditate. Even if I’ve only got 5 minutes, it helps bring me back to my Centre.”
There is a lot of research about the benefits of meditation and its cousin mindfulness. Who can argue with a self-care ritual that:
- decreases stress, anxiety & depression
- increases the immune system and one’s ability to concentrate
- improves sleep, digestion (and some say even libido!)
- reduces high blood pressure, muscle tension and headache
- and more!
Need a little guided meditation to start your day off right? Here’s one of my favourites!
“An hour (or more) of scheduled time per week, doing whatever my heart wants at that time…Reading, writing, yoga, coffee, people watching… I find that when I make an intentional choice about what will feed my heart in that moment, it feels more purposeful and effective as a means of self-care than an hour of free time that slips by unnoticed.”
Yes… Sacred Self-Care requires a belief that I AM WORTHY of time doing what makes my heart happy. How would your life change if the following was your To-Do list?
“Yoga keeps my body, mind and soul at peace. Even if I only have 5 minutes a day, I find it is a pro-active way to keep stress levels down. It is also a perfect balance of stretching and strengthening, so it keeps my body physically healthy.”
We have all heard about the many benefits of yoga. Here is one of our favourite yoga poses, designed to open the Heart Chakra – which of course will create the energy required for Self-Love!
“I take 5 deep breaths…when my mind is jumbled and I’m about to FREAK out, these 5 deep breaths work to put things into perspective.”
Being mindful of our breath can help in so many ways – from calming the nervous system, decreasing insomnia, improving concentration & focus, & more. Breath work can also help us to identify and regulate emotions, as shown in this amazing video called “Just Breathe.”
“My gratitude practice started in desperation, as I fought the darkness of post-partum depression. I started my public, online Gratitude Journal on Facebook on January 1, 2013, and went for over 1000 days. While I don’t have a daily online practice anymore, I am quick to notice & express my gratitude still, all these years later. I don’t say this lightly… gratitude changed my life.”
There is a lot of research happening on the positive effects of gratitude, and we know that being grateful sets off amazing cascades of neurotransmitters through the body. Being grateful increases levels of serotonin and of dopamine, leading to increased feelings of wellness and acceptance for others.
The coolest thing about gratitude? You don’t even need to find something to be grateful for… Nope! The latest research shows that even if you just think about being grateful, positive change happens in the neural pathways of the brain.
No matter where you find yourself on your to-do list – one thing is certain: YOU ARE WORTHY of your own self-love.
You are WORTHY of feeling great; of being a priority in your calendar. You are worthy of consistent self-care practices that nourish your body, mind & spirit.
